Wolfman ... Help Needed

$

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a 0.61 Wolfman which appears to be too aggressive for my sensitive neck area. I'm going to try to obtain a reduced gap head if I can, but I am not sure if I should go with the 0.54 or the 0.48

Can anyone provide some feedback on their experiences with a reduced gap Wolfman? Here are the razors that I use for comparison sake:

Rocwell 6 S (#4)
Timeless 0.68
Edwin Jagger DE 89
Barbaros TR-2
Wolfman Guerrilla
Merkur HD 34C
Gillette Fat Boy (#5)
Delta Echo Slim (#5)

All the razors listed above provide me with a comfortable, non-irritated shave.

Thank you

New Wolfman Guerrilla!!

I told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore razors but this one popped up on Ebay for $299.00 so I had to grab it.  Just got it today.  RAD is a serious addiction!!!!

Gillette Red Tip for a light beard

The Gillette Red Tip is fast becoming my favourite razor. For a time I have even stopped rotating it with my other three razors and am using it every morning. Here's the thing, though. I don't have a heavy or coarse beard, and the Red Tip is supposed to be aggressive. Maybe it's the feel of it in the hand. It does give a really close shave (I do a second pass only on the chin), and if I wanted to, I could probably skip a day. Anybody else with a relatively light beard that likes an aggressive razor nonetheless?

Need help IDing a vintage Gillette - possible Single Ring

So... I need help from the more knowledgeable people here.

Along with my Better Half we went down to the historic part of a neighbouring town, in part to visit their weekly flea market. I had the idea in the back of my head to look to see if I could find something tempting and shaving related.

Spotted some straights. Looked nice, but probably not shave ready and I'm not a straight shaver.

Spotted a pile of old blades in their sleeves... more for the collectors, and I'm first and foremost a user of shave gear.

And then my Better Half, bless her sharp eyes, spotted something on the next table over. A bit grubby, blade still in, case dinged. Seller wanted roughly 25 USD (21 EUR / 19 GBP). I offered half that. He pondered for a second, and then nodded. When I got home I started looking closer at the razor I had bought, after taking out and disposing of the Gillette Blue blade that was in it (it looked pretty bad).

And then I started digging... I'll show you photos first and then give my thoughts, and see what y'all think. And yes, that is a note from my Better Half in the first photo Smile

So... Gillette diamond logo and "Made in USA" under the base plate. No other markings or serial numbers I can find. The outer barrel is pretty worn, so any markings there may be worn off.
No markings on the inner barrel, nor does it seem to ever have been any.
12 teeth plus the corner teeth, making 14 in total on either side.
The knob on the bottom has two groves or rings.
Metal tin, with a cloth covered metal insert. The print in the lid says "Made in USA" and "Known the world over" around the Gillette diamond logo.

Based on what I can see, and what I can find in old threads here on the 'Nook, the photos at Mr Razor's site, and the lists I find online on Gillette serial numbers... I have to wonder what I have gotten my hands on.  Single ring from between 1921 and '28, with the slightly thicker top cap? What is y'all's opinion?

As an aside.. any ideas on how to clean it and get it shave ready?

Polished My Brass Asylum Evolution

When I bought my brass Asylum Evolution XL, it came only in a matte (bead blasted?) finish.  The polished brass version was released later.

I noticed mine was starting to patina anyway, so I decided to see what I could do with some polishing.  One of the things I like about brass and copper is how well they take a polish.

Here is before and after.  I think I'll do the same thing with the Karve razor I have on order.

Gillette bottom dial

Hello and good day to all,

I am considering selling my bottom dial to pay off some bills. However, I am not sure what these razors are going for these days. I don’t want to list it for an offensive amount but rather a fair price. The razor is in excellent condition, replated by razor emporium so all works and looks new. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Thoughts on an upgrade to a Feather ASD2

$

Hello all,

It's been awhile since I've posted, and lo and behold, I'm doing it somewhere than the brush forum!  Shok

All kidding aside, I was hoping to get some input from individuals about what could possibly be a good upgrade to a Feather ASD2. Truth be told, I'm not sure if there is much that would be an upgrade, and I'm not too inclined to go down the RAD department. SBAD has been bad enough. Wink I can use the ASD2 realistically for any time that I've shaved, and I'm just hoping to get a touch more cutting efficiency out of a new razor, but I don't really have any complaints against the ASD2. It works great. I used a Muhle R89 Grande for a long time, and when I stepped up to the ASD2, it was a clear step up for me, and just been hoping I might find a step up again possibly in the right razor.

What I am looking for in an upgrade is:

A knurled handle of some type (Can't do smooth surface razors really. Mergress was my only exception)
A razor somewhere between a Feather ASD2 and an ATT R1 (The R1 is just too aggressive for more than one pass regardless of beard growth. I found the M1 too similar and not any better.)
Typically I like a razor size of 3.5". It just doesn't feel right typically to go any larger or smaller.
One that is closed comb.

Thanks for the help and comments all!

The plating on the head is in remarkable nick for a razor that was found with an old Gillette Blue from the 1930's still in it. Barrel and handle suffers plating loss. Should be shave ready now that it has been cleaned up Smile

Flew back yesterday from Maggards Meet up in Adrian Michigan. Wonderful environment, met many wonderful people all thanks to Brad and Casey Maggard's efforts. Every one I saw seemed to be having a wonderful time. Besides the many customers present I bumped into a few personalities many you would recognize.

Below is myself on the left, center is Scott Brennecke of Captain's Choice Products. He is a maker of great preforming shaving soaps, creams and splashes. Right is Peter Wolf maker of some of the classiest shaving brushes I have ever seen. Yes I did buy one of this creations. More photos later.

It's Yaqi Time

Recently received the Yaqi Red/Black OC along with a Yaqi Moka 24 mm Synthetic Brush via AliExpress (China). The razor has been said to be a knock off of the PAA DOC razor which you can tell from the picture is similar looking. Since I had a DOC I can say the shave is like it. It has a double comb like the PAA but the handle is much different. What you get is a zinc DLC head which comes in several other colors and a DLC brass handle which is very comfortable to hold. The blade alignment is perfect and the razor will not clog. I did a very enjoyable two pass shave using a Personna Platinum blade. Extremely close with zero irritation. The brushes can be obtained in the USA but the razors and heads only from China via Aliexpress. Shipping time took under a week which is incredible. Yaqi also makes a head they call the "Beast" which I might try someday.

FUTUR vs FUTUR CLONE

I purchased a Q Shave a few weeks ago and was impressed with the shave. Having never owned a clone, I thought,
if the "Clone" is this good, then the Futur would be better. Right? Well....the "Clone " and Futur are equal to me.
The Q Shave handle is 1 mm smaller in circumference. I seem to detect an increase in blade chatter/vibration in
the Futur. That could be the blade, I'm using the supplied Merkur blade and the Q Shave blade in the Q razor.
Months or years, may prove one better than the other, but not now. I must wait for the future to decide.
On value...Q Shave wins...... Number_one

Polishing the Karve Christopher Bradley Razor

I received my Karve razor with the E and F plates this week.  I haven't had a chance to shave with it yet, because although I love the matte brass finish, I wanted to polish it.

So here are the before and two after photos.  I like it better polished.  YMMV.

The tricky part is getting the grooves in the pattern of the handle and the inside of the solid bar all polished uniformly.
