Charcoal Goods Razors
Well Brian posted some razor heads that he had available today at noon and man did they go fast . Who were the lucky few that were able to obtain one . I think I last read he is 18 months out now to get a razor .

Polished vs matte finish
Have you noticed any difference between these two finishes on your razors?

Petite Gillette Vitrine Jaune Francaise
Hi chaps
Picked up this cute little yellow Gillette display case on the weekend. I'd say definitely came at the same time as the Monobloc HD.
I fitted a blue-cased HD in the back section of the case, and it fits snugly, however, the back is stamped "Ce ramasse-monnaie est", so it may have contained a little box to pop in your change and pick up blades. There was a little cart of blades left in there, so I took a snap of them, too![Wink Wink]()
There are scratches, etc, and general wear and tear but it came up nicely as you can see. I put my current rotation Aristocrat on the front shelf part to provide scale, and also to cover the little burn mark where the Frenchman left one of his Gauloises![Wink Wink]()
I don't really collect these things, but what's a man to do?
Enjoy![Smile Smile]()

How do you use a dual comb?
I did a quick search and didn't turn up much on TSN regarding this topic, so I am posting these seemingly simple questions. How do you use a dual comb head? What are the benefits? What is your routine? I just picked one up and would love to learn more from the collective. Thanks fellas.

PLEASE READ: Paradigm Prototype Tour Extended Participant List
Gents,
As I mentioned in the ongoing tour thread, we're extending participation so I've scrubbed that thread and my private messages for those of you who want to join. I'm keeping this separate so we don't clutter the original thread.
The list below is in first in/first out order. Because the lineup will grow so dramatically, I'll be asking each new participant to limit their time with the razor to 3-4 days, in order to keep things moving. Please don't sign up if you prefer a longer time or know your personal schedule will not allow that shortened turnaround. All other rules apply. So...everyone on the list has an ACTION: please let me know by reply in this thread if (1) you're still interested in joining or (2) you've purchased the razor or are otherwise no longer interested. I'll adjust the lineup based on that feedback and soon add the additional names to the tour thread.
As for the Paradigm giveaway contest, no updates just yet but I'll share information over the coming weeks..
Thanks, Guys!!

Wolfmania : Wolfman Guerrilla
Let me preface by saying that I've known James Dufour for over 2 years now.
I was one of the 'early adopters' of his WR1 razors before they gained the reputation that is well deserved.
Full disclosure: I have purchased all of my Wolfman razors at retail price.
Wolfman Guerrilla.
Wow!
Presentation:
Low key; cardboard box containing razor in tissue wrapping; unlike certain folks elsewhere who hype upon complaining about this sort of nonsense, I fully support the notion of paying attention to the product as opposed to superficial packaging. Seriously, once I buy a razor, I put the box/case away.. perhaps not to be seen again. So packaging is definitely not the primary concern of a discerning shaver like me.
Finishing is impeccable, in my opinion. It is at least 90% as nice as the regular Wolfman razors, and in my view better than most other SS razors currently being marketed.
The razor is simple, elegant, and in my opinion functionally beautiful in terms of appearance.
Functionally beautiful.
Performance:
Balance is perfect; James nailed it in terms of incorporating a hollow handle. I prefer lighter razors, and this one is ideal in all respects.
Based on my initial shave, I would say that the Guerrilla performs comparably to traditional Wolfman WR1 standard gap razors; perhaps a tad smoother. I suspect this may be in part related to the shallower angle. The blade is held tightly; no blade shudder whatsoever. Smooth.
Well done. I predict that Guerrilla will be a significant presence in the increasingly crowded market of quality razors being offered by many.

To Owners of the Merkur 34G
I'm considering buying a Merkur 34G. For those of you that have owned and used this razor for a while, how has the gold plating been holding up? It's supposed to be 24k which is the softest gold to plate with. I don't clean my razors with any aggressive methods so that's not my concern, I'm more curious as to whether it wears off the sufaces of the top cap and safety bar or perhaps the handle knurling where it's constantly being gripped. I already own a 23c and all my other razors are vintage Gillette, Fatip or a Feather Stainless so please refrain from the usual Zamac bashing if you're not a Merkur/Muhle/EJ user. Hopefully, someone who has used the 34G on a regular basis for over a year or more can respond.

Looking for next razor
Hi y'all I'm looking to get new razor and few in my wish list such as ...
1) Rockwell 6S $99 or 6C $50, heard so many positive about this razor especially how smooth it shave but still blade feel on higher numbers plate by some reviewers and 6C quality issues?
2) Rockwell Model T $99 (butterfly) not on market until July.
3) Timeless scalloped $210 gap not sure, many reviews this razor is very smooth and efficient. I like that but price bit steep. Love the looks.
4) Other razor I might be missing price range $50-$150 maybe little more wouldn't hurt.
I currently own Merkur 34C and 37C Slant, Parker Variant and Maggard Slant. I like 34C good all round razor, 37C Slant very good Slant but not for everyday shave and not to great on across the neck area more than 2 passes I get irritation on neck area. I use 37C as a light finisher after 34C works great. Maggard Slant haven't use much due to blade feel like it scrapping my skin maybe need to work with it and Variant it's a decent adjustable razor not smooth for me on higher numbers above 3 1/2 and the efficient is subpar.
My stubs is pain in the a$$ grows all different directions on neck area it require for me to do 3 passes or 4 and spots if I go multiples same spots I get irritation and burn.
Much appreciate up front for recommendation.

Please help me Identify this Razor
Hey Everyone,
I am new to the forum and to wet shaving but looking forward to getting involved. I picked up this razor at a local antique shop and was hoping someone here could help me identify what kind of gillette it is and also how old it might be and the value. I paid $15 for it. Thanks!

CharcoalGoods- Basic Safety Razor Head
Has anyone used the CharcoalGoods Basic Safety Razor Head? I do like some of the handles currently in stock and understand the brass heads could be available sometime between next Tuesday and July 2018.
Nice to be able to use the handle and the $15 is reasonable for a temporary complete razor.

Please explain wolfman/blackbird quality
Now I have both and I also have a cheap 25$ handle from eBay made by stokes(?).
I just don't see what is so special about the quality/finish.
Is it the shine?
I understand the hand polish is very good but I would not know and difference between this and a machine polished head.
Thanks - I love my blackbird but I am just trying to understand this - no hate - just insight please

Merkur Futur clone
Hi all;
This is about the Ming Shi 2000s Futur Clone.
So i bought one on the Bay,$12.00 delivered.
my first impression was very well made, great fit and finish,
never had or used a Real Futur ,but this is a very impressive razor.
Now to using one!
After my first use , i thought this was a very heavy and cumbersome razor.
awkward to use, in short just a lot of trouble for a shave .
I was ready to list it here and just move it on to someone else to try.
But,i decided to give it another try ,a second chance.
Boy am i glad i did.
After two more of the best shaves i have had with a new razor i love this heavy
monster .it is a close shaver,an efficient shaver ,Get one
PS the blades they sent with it are very likely rebranded Voskhods

Retiring a razor
Some razors do, to be polite about it, age less well than others. But when it's a razor that cost me slightly less than 3 US dollars to begin with, a five year service life really isn't bad at all... it's all of 60 cents a year.
When new, the Yuma was shiny, full of promises and very, very cheap.
I must say the Yuma - a cheaply made razor with a hollow handle and paper-thin head all made from "who knows what fell into the pot" zinc alloy - has given remarkable good shaves, wear, tear and oxidation have eaten away the molecule thick "chrome" coating. This means that while the razor is technically usable, it simply don't glide across my manly cheeks with any degree of ease any longer... the whole surface is covered in zinc oxide which is used as an industrial abrasive, in effect the opposite of what you'll want for smooth shaves.
I guess I could ship my Yuma out to be replated by the professionals, possible in something more fancy than plain chrome... but it's not worth doing that with something that is so cheap and cheerful. So I guess it's time to put it back in it's presentation box, put it on the shelf and look for a replacement in my rotation.

British Gillette Aristocrat #15 Open Comb: Two Examples
Hello all
I now have two examples of the Gillette Aristocrat #15 Open Comb (OC) in Rhodium, dating from around 1938, and there are differences between the two. These differences are indicated in the pictures below, and I have added commentary. I apologise for the average quality of the photographs.
First picture: Two cases. Are they the same? Yes and no.
Upon opening you can see the example on the right has purple velvet lining. The example on the left has the deeper shaded, purple felt lining:
Now look a little closer. The example with the velvet lining (on the right, but below, on the top) is stamped on the handle. Upper portion says "Brit. Pat No. 430.030". The lower band on the handle is stamped with the diamond Gillette logo.
The example underneath that one (see below) has no stamp on the handle. The bands, upper and lower, are clear. On that example (clear) the upper band has a thin line going around at the base of the band. It is visible.
Further differences: The stamped-handle example is stamped under the head with the number 400.621
![[Image: Zi4pzf0.jpg]]()
The clear-banded example is stamped under the head with the number 430.030
![[Image: ueCAMg7.jpg]]()
Slight other difference: the 13 teeth on either side of the stamped-handle example are slightly rounded. The clear-handled example has 13 teeth either side that are slightly more square. See for yourself: it isn't a trick of the light.
The only other difference worth noting is that the knurling on the clear-handled example is slightly finer: the cut is deeper on the stamp-handled example. Other than that, I can't tell the difference between the shaves. The clear-handled variety might be just that little bit smoother.
On the basis of appearance, I prefer the fully-stamped example, but that just reflects my own taste. There may be differences in the quality of plating, but different places on both razors show differences so I call it a tie in that respect. Of the two examples, the stamped-handle is in better condition. It's quite flawless, and actually came with the shipper.![Wink Wink]()
Enjoy. Trust this post was useful to you.

Hollywood Palm CNC Safety Razor
This razor is a new DE razor made by Charcoal for West Coast. I have been moving toward single edge shaving lately. I am looking forward to the release of some of the new Gem blade razors. However, I saw this razor and had been hearing a lot about Charcoal razors and purchased it in a moment of RAD. I am not at all sorry for the purchase. The most outstanding part of this razor is the handle. about 1/4 down on the handle there is some very well don comfortable checkering. There are no sharp edges on the checkering and it is in just the right place for WTG and XTG passes. Furthermore, the checkering is in the perfect place to balance the razor perfectly. The handle has a flair at the bottom which offers an easy secure hold for the ATG pass. I was able to hold the razor upside down and complete the ATG pass with no worry of dropping the razor. The razor and handle are so well mated for each other that there is no need for excess pressure from your hand. The result of this design of the handle alone is a smooth comfortable close shave. The head also is well designed and balanced. I give this razor with this handle a definite thumbs up.
I can't seem to post pictures of this razor here
