Home Made Brass Handle

That is I converted a brass center punch into a usable razor handle. Note the idea was not created by me as I saw this on another forum from 2015 and decided to try it myself. I bought a brass center punch off Amazon and it cost under $6 ( includes free prime delivery). The punch is brass and hollow. The length is just under 4". I unscrewed the handle from two different places and removed the guts (spring, pin, metal spacer). These parts play no role in making a handle. Next I bought a M5 x 0.8 tap (under $5.00) and a drill bit (#19) especially made for tapping. The bit cost under $6. I already had a tap handle which if I remember cost under $10. Before I started drilling I lubricated the handle tip so there was no friction. Then I used the tap handle and tap and by hand cleaned out the handle. When completed I cleaned all the burrs and metal pieces using several Q Tips. The handle will fit just about any head. Shown is a Colonial General brass head.

Has anyone else ever used one?  I am recovering from Amnesic Shellfish/Domoic Acid Poisoning.  My short term, and, long term memory was affected.  So, anyway, I remembered using one, and, loving it, years ago.  Now that I have remembered it, I have ordered one.  I hope it arrives by Saturday, but, it may be Monday.  Either way, a nice little Easter present, for myself, from myself, to myself, which I remembered, by myself.

This would be a good choice, anyway, as it is quite mild, and, the blades are sharp, without sacrificing smoothness.

Anyway, I just thought I would share this.  Timor is very popular in Europe.  Is it big in North America?

Light razors or heavier ones ?

After trying the Seygus ,Colonel SE and Standard Razor Aluminum razors and the Paradigm Ti one,I have realized that I prefer them over some other more heavier models in brass or stainless steel. When I first tried the Standard razor and the Colonel , realized that I dont like my razors to be as light as some bakelite ones , but they didnt have tome more than 50 grams to convince me (of course, those two , shaves me extremely well).

What about you , gents ? Prefer heavy razors (over 4 oz), medium ones (between 2.5 and 3.5oz) or even lighter ones ?

Gents,

Let's see those vintage razors!  I used to be a fairly serious collector, sold off many, but did retain some nice sets.  Based on posts and photos I've seen in the past few months, I'm not alone!

Shiny or dull, rare or common, let's show off those razors of yesteryear!

I'll kick it off with the next post.

Comparing Wolfman Blade Gaps

I have been unable to find a thread that compares different Wolfman blade gaps, specifically in a SB.  For those that have several Wolfmans with different blade gaps, what are your thoughts?  Thanks for sharing your experience.

I know the first batch sold out a couple weeks ago. Anyone get one? If so, can you give us a review? I'm on the wait list and have been waiting for this one. Very interesting design similar to the SE50 from them. I was on vacation when the first batch hit and missed out. I recently sold my DE-P because it was just too mold for me but love all of their other razors.

Just curious what everyone thinks about the Wolfman razors. I have been trolling his website hoping to find something for sale
for a few weeks now. I have also subscribed to his Twitter feed but have seen nothing. I am hoping to find a top quality modern razor but these seem too hard to come by.

1937 Advertisement for British Silver Aristocrat

Found on a market stall yesterday: among the old newspapers, a special, 1937 Coronation (George VI) Edition of The Times

Inside it I came across this advertisement: a (1936) silver Aristocrat priced at what was then a hefty 15 shillings. It wasn't called a #15 at that stage.

I have seen one or two advertisements for this particular razor, but not this particular one. I thought it uniquely interesting. Note the centre bar has no 'wings', and also the lame "crowning achievement" pun... ha ha indeed.

Enjoy.

Rotation-Psychological?

$

I have been rotating four razors--a 1951 Gillette Aristocrat, a 1952 Made in Canada ball end Tech, a gold Tech from the 1940s, and a 1974 long handle Super Adjustable (Black Beauty). If I had to justify the rotation, I would be hard pressed to say that one shave differed much from another. I honestly think it's the sense of history more than anything else. Especially with the Techs, I marvel at the simplicity of the design and wonder sometimes how many items produced today will last as long. The Aristocrat is beautiful to look at, and so forth. So is wet shaving with vintage razors mostly psychological?

Rare Gillette?

Good evening, gentlemen.

A few days ago I saw an interesting razor on eBay (sold, unfortunately). It's a TTO, gold plated, SHORT HANDLE. Does anyone know what is that? I don't think I've seen a gold plated TTO with no side caps, before. Thank you, for your time.

I thought I would pass along a terrific Razor Handle artisan (lpinion15) that I found on Ebay.  To be clear, I am in no way affiliated with this individual and I purchased my handle and matching base at retail from him.  I made no mention that I would post and review his work on this or any other forum.  Now to the fun part.  I was looking for a stellar Copper Handle and matching Base for my Blackbird Black Oxide head.  Judge for yourself:

Master Barber Classic Safety Razor

I failed to locate my other thread about this.

Anyway, I promised to give a brief review of this razor, once I had used it.  Today was the day for me to use, since I never shave on Friday, nor, Saturday.

I had not used this kind in almost  year, and, wow, I was missing it.

This razor works, for my skin type, it seems, better than any other.    I rate this razor, as superior, to the following:

Merkur 38C HD (too heavy)
Timor 1322 (great head, but, a bit too light)
Parker 96R  (waaaaaaayyyy too aggressive, instant razor burn city)

So, this is my review.

It is easy to get carried away with it, because it fit my hand, perfectly, and, one needs to pay attention.  I had one little knick, on my neck, from going too quickly, on moving to the next section.

Okay, so, not everything is perfect.  The head on this razor is a good overall shape, but, different razors fit in differently, I have noticed.  Sometimes, the razor manufacturer will make the razor blade a bit long, and, the edges come right to the end, of the head, of the razor.

I love this razor, though.  My skin feels great.  Baby-bottom smooth results, from two with-the-grain passes.

Speed of your razor stroke?

$

Do you concentrate on the speed of the stroke? Yes, no?
If so, what works best for you (using your definition of what is fast, moderate, slow)?
Do you aim for different speeds depending on aggressiveness/efficiency of different razors (or blades)?

EDIT:
could a moderator please add a Poll, with choices:

-no, I mostly don't pay attention to speed
-slow
-moderate
-fast
-I use different speed depending on razor/blade
Thank you!

I just acquired both of these on EBay and wondering if there is a difference in Shave between the S3S and the SBS. Other than one being stainless and the other being brass, they seem to be identical other than the top cap sides of the SBS looking like the top cap sides of my Tradere.
