Timeless .95 WOW!

$

I picked up two Timeless razors last week and wow, what amazing instruments!

I wear a beard and shave my head, and have found it challenging nd a DE razor which handled my head efficiently, without leaving weepers on the crown and more extreme angles. Until the Timeless, a Pils 101NE has had the best balance, but the handle has always been too smooth and skinny to feel 100% comfortable while shaving in the shower.

My go to razor has been an ATT M1 with a Stork Sargent titanium handle, a close second is the Charcoal Goods Level 1 close comb.

Enter the Timeless

I bounced endlessly between open and closed comb, smooth and scalloped heads and the .68 and .95 gaps and ultimately went with a .95 smooth bar and smooth cap set. The first shave, with TOBS Coconut was amazing, easily one of the best shaves I've ever had. Zero weepers and a DFS across my entire head in just two passes. I cannot go ATG on my head, so a DFS is nirvana for me.

The .95 is super efficient, but also delightfully smooth and safe, I would need to work at cutting myself with this setup.

I loved the setup so much I immediately ordered the open comb, scalloped head setup. Shaving with the close comb my be a touch smoother, but both are superb.

Well as some of you might be aware, I've been searching high and low for an Anodized Wolfman Ti with no luck--surprise surprise.  Well a member on another shave forum suggested I have my current Wolfman Ti Anodized by a third party---turns out there's a gent on Instagram who's been anodizing knives and hand guns for quite some time and he was all for trying his hand on my Wolfman......after several PM's back and forth we decided on a color scheme---I really wasn't interested in a solid color.....have to say....I couldn't be more pleased...btw...even my wife thinks it looks cool which is saying something  Rolleyes

From a junk shop in Sydney:

1 X Gillette HD500

1 X English Flare Tip Rocket

Both in fair condition, but soaked in Oxy bleach, cleaned and polished, then lubricated. I have become much better at tuning razors up, too. Now these two are absolutely symmetrical and bang on.

I paid $5 Australian for the two. Yes, that's right. That's about $3.80 US.

Restoring a vintage slant de

So I have a very rare German DE slant called a cowboy razor. I have had it (and used the heck out of it) for about 5 years and the plating is just not holding up.

This razor is the most incredible shave I have ever used, everything about it it just agrees with my face and I have never had a better shave from anything. I had a backup, which was in pristine condition, and the was one of only two I have ever seen in the wild (the other being my daily shaver) and foolishly I sold it thinking I would not have any issues with my daily driver.

I would like to have the head restored, and possibly 24k gold plated or maybe nickel or ruthenium. A few questions:

1. Who would YOU trust to restore this razor if it were yours?

2. How can I tell if the head is "pot metal"? I see a common trend from people who restore razors saying no pot metal.

3. If it is pot metal, can anything be done?

The plating is actively coming off and I would like to save this shaver before it is too far gone. Thanks for your help!

Rocnel DE-P safety razor. From Turkey with efficiency.

Rocnel have been making safety razors for the past two years and now have joined forces with another Turkish brand , Barbaros , creating excellent safety razors.

I tried the Barbaros TR-1 safety razor last year with good results and I was surprised that it was no longer made after a while.

Well , I'm afraid that this Rocnel DE-P took over and this is the reason I have lately sold some of my safety razors.

This razor is made of stainless steel 316 and , let me tell you , as the quality razors out there , is quite sturdy , with a weight over 100g and it's very well balanced.

It's handle is kind of a "generic" Rocnel handle , since is the same that is used for the Rocnel SE 50 single edge.

The knurling is deep , rugged and the handle is long enough in case you have big hands and you don't like small handles.

It's closed comb head is one of the best I have tried on a while.Yes , I will write it again , the best I have tried on a while , and I think I have been using the finest safety razors out there these past few months.

The smoothness of this razor is hard to believe. Its extra smooth , I really mean it.With a Derby Premium Blade or Blue Astra it's hard to believe you're shaving. But my friend , smooth doesn't means mild and this razor will bite you if you exercise more presión than you should.

Don't get me wrong , while the feeling is extra smooth , take a couple shaves to adjust to that feeling , and when you are adjust , then you can "feel" much better how does shaves.

To me this closed comb head shaves more "efficiently" than a Timeless 0.68 closed comb head and I think that the Timeless is a heck of a closed comb head.

I like to use this closed comb head with the Matador Elegante handle , which makes a truly stunning stainless steel razor :

If I have to choose some double edge razors these days , or at least , make a ranking of the 3 more efficient and smoothest ones for me , this would be :

1.Seygus.
2.Rocnel
3.Timor closed comb head.

Rocnel have truly made a closed comb head that combines smoothness to a extreme with high efficiency at the time of shaving. Two passes and almost a BBS for me.I have medium to hard beard , specially under my jaw and neck , and this Rocnel take cares of it like it would be the easiest job ever. And it's not.

You can buy this razor for the US market straight from Rocnel or at BullGoose Shaving and don't wait the week and half (maybe more) that takes to arrive from Turkey. For me , worth every penny of its price , 175 dollars.

I'm a happy shaver.

Wolfman vs BarbarosTR-1

Hello,

After a year of unsuccessful attempts to acquire a Wolfman, my sights are now set on the soon to be released Barbaros TR-2.  I love the look of the razor (especially the handle), but I am concerned about the 1.0 mm blade gap (the gap has been confirmed by the manufacturer).  It was wondering if anyone can comment on the shaving experience with the TR-1 (the TR-2 is supposed to be similar.)  How does it compare to a Wolfamn 0.61 gap, a Timeless 0.68 or any other razor?

Thank you

What razor should I get?

Looking for a new DE razor. My go to for the past few years has been an extremely efficient vintage dermal slant.

Past razors I have owned and enjoyed have been:

Tradere Open Comb
Numerous Merkur Slants, vintage and production
DE89 (super smooth, but I prefer something with a bit more aggression)

I have been WAY out of touch with all of the new razors on the market, so, I ask you gents...

If moneys were not an issue, what razor would you go for?

Likely won't find a better tool than Muhle R89

For me anyway, I don't believe I will ever have a better shaving tool than the Mühle R89 razor.
I shave every day.  I have sensitive skin.  I don't want to have to pay attention, even ATG.  I do a lot of buffing and always go for fully BBS.
I've recently been experimenting with other razors, and while a few of them are really good for a shave or two, none of them (except probably the 34c that I already owned for years prior to this recent exploration) work for me as nicely as the Mühle R89 as a literal everyday razor.  Argue...

I cannot say enough about James and Wolfman razors. The finish is stunning and a picture doesn't do it 10% the justice it truly deserves.

Gorgeous shave and superior craftsmanship.

Fatip Picolo

I have been reading about more aggressive razors lately and became interested in the Fatip Picolo.  I recently got a chance to buy one from @JJFAR for cheap.  First shave today.

Looks:  This is a cool retro razor.  It looks very much like an antique razor and looks very natural lined up with my vintage English New open combs.  Mine has blade edge exposure that differs slightly from side to side.  It is not something I can fix through manual adjustment.

Handling:  Even though the handle is just lined, it provides plenty of grip.  I really like the handle weight.  It is about the size of my vintage Gillette New handles, but with more weight.  Balance is good.  Specifically, the weight and balance make it very easy and natural to perform a light-touch shave, which is supposed to be required of this razor.

Gear:  I went into this expecting an aggressive experience.  So, I loaded up a Personna Red, which is one of my favorite smooth and not too sharp favorites.  Looking for extra protection, I pulled out L&L Grooming’s After the Rain soap.

Shave: The shaving angle was very obvious to find.  As said above, it was very easy to shave with a light touch, whereas other razors of mine require specific concentration to go light.  I did my usual 2 passes, but didn’t have time to do touch-ups to my neck.  Close shave, no blood, not irritation.  Never did I feel like the blade was scraping too deep or was threatening to cut me.

So you’ll understand where I am coming from, my favorite razors are the Timeless .68 OC, Muhle Roca, and Gillette #44 English RFB.  The Picolo is a different shave than all of these, and they are different from each other.  Initial results tell me that the Picolo could easily fit in my rotation, because its results are as good as these and it provides another element of variety.  I like variety.

I have had a Darwin Deluxe for several years and have found it to be very well-designed and I enjoy using it whenever I get the chance. I am interested in knowing how the Asylum Evolution razor performs in comparison to the Darwin Deluxe razor. Does anyone have both and use both regularly?

I kindly asked Phil to try one of the Paradigm Titanium razors as soon as I saw it on his webpage , and he was very kind to send me one for me to try.

I'm very glad he did : this is a stunning razor which provides excellent shaves.

This razor is made of Titanium and you can noticed it right away when you pick it up.I have been using stainless steel razors most of the last month , which have a different "feeling" than this one.

This razor feels lighter than some of those stainless steel ones , but is about 80 grams of weight , which is not "light" by any means.

The handle is long enough to be hold with no problems , even if you have big hands. It has a length around 9 cm.

Is knurling is very elegant but not deep. However , since the handle has an heptagonal shape , it's very easy to hold , providing an excellent grip.

This is a 3 piece razor , as you can see in the following pic :

And the closed comb head resembles some other ones like the ATT , Seygus or Rocnel DE-P , as you can see here :

When the blade is assembled , gets extremely secure on that head , and also well aligned in both sides.

And the shave with it is what I was expecting : smooth and efficient.I do have a medium beard , and two passes ( WTG and XTG) were enough to provide a close , comfortable , free of stubble and irritation , shave.

I would compare this closed comb head with the Seygus closed comb head in terms of smoothness and effectivity when cutting the beard hair.

Also I would like to say that my pics don't reflect the real beauty of this razor either it's color.

I have written this a couple times , but we are lucky these days to be able to choose among so many good products out there for traditional wet shaving and this is another great example of this.

Will write my final thoughts when I test it a couple times more.So far , so great.

Paradigm Titanium DE: Prototype Mini-Tour

Gents,

Phil has entrusted me with one of the Paradigm Titanium DE prototypes and I'm launching a short member tour to gather feedback on this beautiful razor.  Participants are being chosen from a mix of staff and selected members.

Should be fun!  Look for details in the coming hours.

*************
OK folks, here we go!

As mentioned, we're selecting a small group of members for now.  If you are not chosen, but have interest, send me a message and I can add you to a "reserve" list, should we decide to extend the tour a bit or a member is unable to keep the tour moving (work, travel, etc.).

The Lineup
TexBilly (Bill)
Agravic (Ravi)
eengler (Ed)
poonjaji (Michael)
TheLegalRazor (Ricardo)
wreck | fish (Tom)
Sully (Shawn)
snowman (Jack)
Pending Member 2
(Back to TexBilly)

I imagine most of us have done this before but since a $395 razor is in play, expectations are worth repeating, much of which I borrowed from our resident tour expert, poonjaji.  They are simply intended to keep the tour fair, fun and safe.

1. Duration:  Please limit your time with the gear to 7 days. This should be enough time for some quality shaves and impressions. There will be exceptions, and if you know ahead of time your schedule will be limited (e.g., vacation, job constraints, travel) please let me know so we can adjust the order and keep the momentum going.

2. Package Contents:  Paradigm DE, a variety of DE blades and perhaps a few samples to try on the side.  Each member is invited to use up to 3 blades (or use you own as you wish), so there should be plenty to go around.  Completely optional, but one of the reasons I'm using a medium box is for members to add blade, scent, soap, cream, etc. samples along the way.  Through past tours, I've discovered great products I never tried on my own.

3. Be Clean:  After I'm done with my turn, I will ship the razor clean and sterilized. Please do the same before handing it off to the next member. Simple Green (preferred), soapy hot water, Barbicide and Scrubby Bubbles are fine.  Please do NOT use boiling water or bleach on the razor as it will cause irreversible damage.

4. Package and Insure like a Pro:  I will carefully wrap and ship the package via USPS Priority Mail, Medium Priority Mail flat rate box and insure it for at least $400.  If Priority Mail is a hardship, please switch to a clean, generic box and pack securely. The razor, blades and samples are valued at over $400, so there is an expectation that each participant agrees to insure the package for a minimum of $400 in order to replace the razor should something go awry.

5. Communicate:  Please post in this tour thread when you receive the razor and when it ships.  Upon receipt, please contact the next person on the list in order to have their shipping information on-hand when your time with the razor is over.  Please PM me as needed or if you have questions. It is never fun to track you down if you are in possession of the razor and have "gone off the grid".

6. Post Reviews:  Please share your impressions in this thread, good or bad, with your fellow TSN members.

7. HAVE FUN and...go Shave Nook!
